  1. A question of foreign policy

    March 26, 2007 by Geoff

I’ve only got a really brief one for you today, but this is something that I’d love to get some thoughts on. It’s a simple question, although it’s a deeply emotive and loaded one at that. The question is:

“Why should the United States (or any other country) be allowed to have nuclear weapons (or any other weapons of mass destruction)?”

It was brought about by some musings over hearing either Iran or North Korea say that they’d give up a nuclear program as long as the US did the same, which was laughed off as not being a serious proposition. So here’s your opportunity to enlighten me (and the world) as to why it makes sense for a super power to have a nuclear weapon. I’m ready and waiting for my resident right-wingers, thanks.
