  1. Does overseas adoption do more harm than good?

The recent Madonna adoption issue, has once again brought the idea of foreign adoption into the public eye. I found this article from one man’s personal experience with foreign adoption a very interesting insight. From the article:

“I loved my father, my mother, my siblings and my village Dilla, but if I had been given the choice that day I might have accepted to go with the American woman because we had a genuine feeling of mother-son relationship for each other and I had such a burning desire to learn English and speak as she did. We departed each other with broken hearts. When I was discharged from hospital and returned to our home, I couldn’t stop crying for a whole week.”

I guess the difficult part of this issue is that everyone involved believes that they have the child’s best interests at heart. I’d love to hear what people think – especially if you’ve had a personal experience with adoption (overseas or otherwise), because I think it’s certainly a difficult ethical quandry.
