We have decided we are no longer willing to continue censoring our results on Google.cn, and so over the next few weeks we will be discussing with the Chinese government the basis on which we could operate an unfiltered search engine within the law, if at all. We recognize that this may well mean having to shut down Google.cn, and potentially our offices in China.
While I realise lots of you will have heard this news already, congratulations are in order to Google who have decided that it’s not enough just to say you’re not going to be evil, and are instead doing something about it as well.

I’m actually disappoitned at google. According to wikileaks – the final straw which led to this stand was China attempting to access googles source code repository.
If that’s the case, google decided the Chinese Yuan was more powerful then uncersored web search. It decided the Chinese Yuan was more powerful then China attempting to hack dissidents email accounts. But the Chinese Yuan wasn’t worth them losing their crown jewels – their proprietary source code.
Basically – well turn a blind eye to civil rights, but don’t dare steal our source code.
