Year in Review – The Apology
“After this moment, Australia can be imagined as a different place. A place where Aboriginal citizens no longer live in third world conditions. A place where our kids are safe. A place where community rights, of choice, consultation, participation and responsibility matter more than administrative procedures and public sector management guidelines.”
“After the Apology” – Patrick Dodson’s speech to the National Press Club (PDF).
Don’t know if I’ll do many of these, but in thinking about the year that’s just about to finish, I wanted to share this quote from Aboriginal leader Pat Dodson after Kevin Rudd’s apology to the Stolen Generation. I think in many ways it tapped at the same sentiment that a number of American’s have felt with Barack Obama being elected America’s next President. It was a great moment in Australia’s history.
