An Open Letter To The Geelong Football Club

Dear Geelong,

I realise that I have not been your greatest advocate. I understand that throughout this year I have taken a great deal of pleasure in relaying my belief that you would choke in late September, and that you might not really be the “real deal”. I confess I’ve even offered up scorn to the selection of Mooney and Milburn in the All Australian side. Understand that this is partly because you have hurt me – both in demolishing the shell of a team that the Tiges have been this year, and through Gary Ablett Snr’s nasty habit of kicking 15 goals or more against the yeller and black back in the bad old days.

But as hard as it might be to believe: I like you. I think you play a beautiful style of footy, and I’ve enjoyed watching you play this season. You have restored the respectability of this great footballing state, and proven that attacking football can win big games. There is no doubt in my mind that I’ll be wishing on the blue and white this weekend, rather than that self-absorbed arrogant mob from Alberton.

So it is in the spirit of reconciliation and friendship that I make this one, heartfelt request:

Please, PLEASE.

Don’t choke

Yours Sincerely,

Geoff Matheson – Lover of all good things in football and disliker of the size of Mark Williams’ head.

I must be one of the few pastors in Perth to have a group of passionate Geelong supporters, and after Ablett singlehandedly demolished Freo, at Subiaco, you would think I would dislike them all, but I dont. Their coach is a very likeable person, honest and forthright…..Ablett seems very decent, and unaffected by his obvious talent. What strikes me about Geelong is that they work like a team…..and besides, who could possibly barrack for a team that wears teal??

ah well its just nice to see some victorian teams up there.

My old little league socks are crying in the sock draw. They’re brown and gold, and they thought they might have had a reason to come out and be worn (yes they still fit after many years of stretching and washing!).

Why oh why Hawthorn, did you have to take your eyes off the ball?

But apart from that, GO GEELONG!!! it is good to see one of the old great teams of the game in the running again!

Its something that victorian’s know deep down. AFL is our game. We just let other people play it out of national spirit. But they shouldn’t win.

Go Footesgray!!! ah the good old days.

I bet that word starting with C has been banned from the vocabulary of Geelong

Yes, and port would probably give them some stick about it too if that same word wasn’t so unsavoury for them too.

yah! Go Geelong. They sure did it, gave Port a hiding. It seems I wind up in unusual locations every grand final… once a tiny screen in the flinders ranges at a caravan park, this time at some random pub in Sydney.
