Right-wing fundamentalist or hippie pinko leftie?

I’ve got a theory that we have a wide range of political backgrounds for people that visit here – could be wrong, but I think it might be interesting to see the left/right split. And with the hoo-ha over the US elections, coupled with our Victorian state elections, it’s the season to talk politics.
So, no fence-sitters in this one, pick a direction: left or right. To give you a hand for those of you who might be struggling with the lingo, I’ll include Geoff’s patented quick easy guide to left wing versus right wing.

Right Wing

Identified as: conservative, “family values”, etc.

Parties: Liberal Party (Australia), Tories (UK), Labor Party under Kim Beazely ;) (Australia), Republican Party (US), edit – Family First (Australia)
Insults to use against Right Wingers: fundamentalist, regressive, short-sighted, heartless

Left Wing

Identified as: progressive, liberal (small L), etc.
Parties: Labor Party historically (Australia), Greens (Australia), Democrats (Australia and USA)

Insults to use against Left Wingers: communist, hippy, pinko-lefty, idealist, bleeding heart

So there you go, pick your side and forever be stuck with the label….

    I agree with Laura.
I’m a bit of both-always voted mostly to the left side (a family tradition!) but occassionally get sick of them all and go a bit rightish. Can I sit on the fence-both have their positives and negatives -and I HATE voting day because I have to make a decision!

Maybe the reason for so few right wing comments is that 'Right Wing' is unfashionable. Was it once said “the meek will inherit the earth”? Well boys, it's happening.
