Very good article about Sojourners Jim Wallis, talking about the (particularly American) right’s monopoly on religious issues. I think I’d share the political views almost exactly with this guy – I just love what he is saying. And the other really interesting part of the article is his comments about the left-side of politics:
“The Democrats, meanwhile, ignored religion altogether and allowed themselves to be seen as secular fundamentalists, hostile to faith. Wallis says the left needs to recover its progressive history and moral vocabulary, and not concede the whole territory of religion and values to the right.”
Both Wallis and Tim Costello wrote a similar article in the Sun this week. Christina made a few observations on her blog at sojourn. Good to see a bit of balance with the political stuff. Many Christians I know felt boxed in who to vote for. This articles should give them a bit of freedom.
Yeah, just saw Christina’s post a few moments ago, and I think you’re absolutely right (although not in a political sense
). There’s no doubt that significant numbers of Christians vote out of habit or obligation. I love hearing people like this who are willing to be absolutely biblical in their approach to issues, rather than believing what politiicans feed them.
